Preparation:
IMPORTANT-Please bring a bathing suit or underwear (in dark colors), a thong or you may choose to tan au natural.
- Bring loose fitting clothing for your post tan.
- Have your manicure and pedicure prior to having your spray tan.
Day before your tan:
- Exfoliation is one of the most important factors in preparing your skin for a spray tan. Thoroughly exfoliate before your tan is to be applied with a washcloth and one of our recommended skin products (this is not mandatory but will help.) This is to remove dead skin and provide a smooth, new surface for your tan. Exfoliating helps to promote an even coverage and lengthens the duration of the tan. Make sure you pay particular attention to elbows, ankles, and knees.
- Shave or wax (to allow pores time to close) the night before your application.
- Do not have a spray tan if you are pregnant or breast feeding (unless approved by your physician).
Day you receive your tan:
- Remove make-up, moisturizer, perfume, and deodorant before your application as these can act as a barrier. Do not use highly moisturized soap.
- Wear dark loose fitting clothing to and from your tanning appointment.
- Tanning solution washes out of most clothing very easily but may stain nylon and lycra materials therefore dark colored underwear is recommended.
- Avoid having hand contact with skin as color develops, to prevent color from developing on palms or fingers.
- Remember no exercising, sweating or water touching your new spray tan for the first 8 hours; a restful night does wonders for you and your new tan.
Aftercare:
- Your tan needs to be completely dry before you put on your clothes. Leave your tan for at least 8 hours and overnight if possible, before showering or taking a bath. This allows your tan to develop.
- DO NOT WET YOUR SKIN FOR AT LEAST 8 HOURS. If you accidently get wet after your spay tanning session, use a little bit of moisturizer to smooth out the water spots. BE SURE TO WASH YOUR HANDS.
- Avoid wearing socks or shoes after your tanning session as sweating can inhibit the development of your tan. Sandals are a good choice.
- Avoid applying moisturizers or deodorants until after your first shower or bath. Take short cool showers or baths to maintain your spray tan.
- Avoid wearing tight clothing for at least 8 hours, as these will cause the tan solution to rub off during the developing stage.
- All swimming, showering and vigorous exercise must be avoided for at least 8 hours as this can inhibit the development of your tan. No sweating please.
- Do not shave until 12 hours after your treatment.
- Do not sit on light colored fabrics until you have showered or have taken a bath, there is a colored bronzer that sits on top of your skin.
Remember – When you take a shower or a bath you will see the color bronzer wash off that was used when the tan was applied. Pat dry, do not rub your skin, and you will be left with a gorgeous tan.
Maintaining Your Tan:
It is recommended you follow these general guidelines to maintain your tan:
- Moisturize daily to extend the tan. Tan extender is recommended after 3 days of having your tan. We offer excellent tan extending products that contain more DHA than are available over the counter.
- All spray tanning solutions tend to dry the skin, be sure to moisturize skin daily.
- Avoid long hot baths and showers as this speeds up exfoliation, which will fade the tan.
- Avoid using soaps, shower gels or bubbles baths that contain parabens or sodium lauryl sulphates, as these will fade your tan (shed skin cells) more quickly.
- Pat your skin dry after a bath or shower. Do not use loofahs or exfoliants for maintance only for your pre-tan routine.
- Use touch up spray (ask us) for your face, hands and feet since these areas fade quicker than the rest of your body. We offer our products with the highest percentage of DHA self-tanners available. Our self-tanners work with our tanning solutions.
- Avoid Swimming & Spas for the first 24 hours after your spray tan session to prevent color from fading. Hot tubs with high chlorine tend to fade the spay tan faster.
- Remember that your tan does not have any SPF factor, so wear sun protection as usual.
Between Tanning Sessions:
- For additional color, we suggest the use our self-tanning products to preserve and maintain your beautiful deep, dark color.
